When thinking of this project I have seen it in only one dimension, words. Chapter 11, Designing Effective Documents opened my mind to some ideas as to how I can make this research multidimensional. Chapter 11 starts off by listing some general qualities in a “well designed” paper-effective format, clear headings, useful lists, and helpful visuals. I had never thought of incorporating headings and visuals into my research. Headings give the reader a sneak peek at what is discussed or defined in that particular segment (p137). The writer does need to exercise caution when using headings to avoid too many, which will make it look more like a outline, or too little, which serves no point (p137).If headings are used, keep them unified, same size, font, and color depending on their importance (p138). Using headings would help me to stay focused, making sure my paragraph(s) match up to their heading.
Visuals in a document can include tables, graphs, charts, and photographs (p 140). Visual examples on pages 141-143 do a good job at showing how they can change the look of a number filled document to a sampler platter of interesting facts. Again, I never would have thought of using charts or graphs in my paper, but it makes sense to incorporate charts/ graphs since a majority of my resources have various statistics and numbers. This option would entice readers with the information presented in my paper. Learning about and applying headings and visuals will not only benefit myself, but the audience.
This week’s reading assignment complements course competency # 2 & 9 by the use of headings to provide unity and direction for the paper, and exploring/applying the different formats methods available.

I got a lot of the same things you did out of this reading. I think this chapter will help out a lot when we are writing WP #3 because that is the paper that is intended for an audience. This chapter would be better suited to be read right before we start working on WP #3 so it will be fresh in our minds about formatting and visuals.

I agree with you about the graphs, tables and so on. I found that section to be very helpful as well. I found it most interesting about the suggested format and label them accordingly just like you would see in a textbook.
